May

On May 17th the Hiking Group went for a hike on Prudence Island. They established a relationship with the naturalist there, Maureen DeWire of the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. She leads groups on hikes, and explains the history, the ecology, the wildlife, etc to us along the way.

June

On Monday, June 12th the Hiking group took a trip to Weetamoo Woods in Tiverton to see the mountain laurels in bloom. There are 7 miles of trails within Weetamoo Woods and another 2 miles in the adjacent Pardon Gray Preserve (Tiverton Land Trust). The trails have gentle slopes, rocky/rooted pathways and wet areas in spring. The trails are well-marked and maps are available the East Road trailhead.
